Verdicchio di Matelica D.O.C.
The Verdicchio di Matelica DOC was the first “DOC” white wine of the Marche Region of 1967. The sensorial characterization of this native wine is an expression of the pedoclimatic typicality of upper Vallesina: The only important valley in the Marche Region to be exposed north – south, closed to the east by the “quinta del monte San Vicino” which, like a large dam, blocks the thermal flywheel of the Adriatic Sea; thus, creating a climate that is continental in thermal excursions but Mediter- ranean in insolation. So very cold in winter and very hot in long summer days; the Verdicchio vine that lives in this ecosystem and responds to these original thermal stresses creates a must that is the result of a unique and therefore typical physiological metabolism.
